Bruges and Brussels, Belgium

Bruges Town Centre

On the 16th of October we caught a bus from Amsterdam to Brussels followed by train, an hour north to Bruges. Here we stayed 2 nights at Snuffle Hostel. The hostel was quite small and had a spiral staircase that led up to the dorm rooms.

Bruges is quite a small town which reminded me a lot of Prague. It is a very touristy town, although very quaint at the same time. On our first night we found a great Belgium restaurant but it was booked out for the night so we ended up having Thai food, which was surprisingly nice!

The following day we hired bikes from our hostel and rode a little around the town before riding along the canal to Damme, a very small village about half an hours ride from Bruges. After looking around we continued on with a goal to reach the Belgium coastline. Although the ride was very flat it felt like we had been riding for hours before we finally reached the small beach town, Heist. By the time we got there it was almost 5pm so we decided to take a couple of quick photos and then find the train station in hope that we could catch a train back to Bruges. Our hopes had been answered and it took around half an hour by train to reach the main station.

We spent our last day walking around town buying famous hand made Belgium chocolate and taste testing Belgium beer before catching the afternoon train back to Brussels where we stayed the night.

Brussels was very dirty and a bit like a concrete jungle in comparison to Bruges.

That night we flew out of Beligum to Venice.
