On the 14th of September we caught the bus to the port in Dubrovnik where our Sail Croatia boat was waiting for us. Our was named Teodora and catered for 18 people. We had a mixed crew of Kiwi's, Aussie's and Pom's. At 1pm we had a 'get to know you' lunch where everyone clicked instantly over a few ciders and beers.
The View From Cafe Buza, Dubrovnik
That afternoon we headed to a bar / swimming hole in the old town called Cafe Buza. We spent the whole afternoon here swimming, drinking and watching the adrenaline junkies dive off the cliffs.
Our rep organised dinner for us at a traditional Croatian restaurant. After this we headed down the lane way to Sky Bar for some bucket cocktails and a boogie with some sailers. The night progressed to the only nightclub in town called Revelin. We decided to call it quits at 3am and headed back to the boat so we could rest for the following day and night's activities.
Salt Lake - Mjet
The following morning we sailed to Mjet via the Elephite Islands for a swim and lunch break. Once we arrived in Mjet our rep explained all the activities available for the afternoon which included bike riding, hiking and swimming in the National Park's Salt Lake. We opted for bike riding and swimming which was a great way to shake off our hang over.
Mjet is a very small town with only a few restaurants and hotels. The boats are docked right next to these hotels, so we had to have an early night to ensure we didn't wake the residents. This didn't really mean an early night. Everyone gathered on one of the larger boats for a bit of a party which consisted of cocktails, smoke machines and loud music.... Until 11pm when everything was shut down and we were told to go to bed.
The following morning we sailed to Korcula. Unfortunately the weather was quite rainy and cold so we didn't stop off for a swim but headed straight to port. Korcula is the birth place of Marco Polo the explorer. We headed straight to the old town where we wondered the many lane ways filled with jewellry and souvenier shops. It rained most the day so we pulled up a chair and hung out at a pub all afternoon until we decided it was time to head back to the boat and get ready for the night ahead.
We had dinner and drinks at a Mexican restaurant and then went to a bar close by where most the sail boat crews were partying. This particular bar filmed the dancefloor inside and projected it on the outside wall which was pretty cool! Outside the bar was a lady serving some of the best pizza I've ever had!
Hula Beach Bar
The following day it was time to cruise to Hvar. The water was quite rough so it took much longer than usual to get into town which meant we didn't stop off for a swim. Thankfully we beat the rain and got into port just in time to enjoy the late afternoon at Hula Beach Bar. That night we had a group dinner and a few drinking games before heading to the local bar. At 1am Pink Champagne, the main nightclub in town opened so we headed over there and danced up a storm until 5am.
Stari Grad Vineyard
DIY Wine Tasting at the Beach
The following morning was a short cruise to our next port stop. Stari Grad, is one of the oldest towns in Croatia dating back to 384BC. There are many vineyards in Stari Grad so we decided to do our own wine tasting tour at the beach. Each person bought a different bottle and we shared it around. That night there was a huge lightening storm that consisted of 10 flashes per minute and lasted 2 hours so we decided to have an early night so we could rest before our big day / night in Makarska.
Makarska Beach
Makarska was my favourite island on the trip. The Island is quite narrow so you can walk from the front beach to the back beach within minutes. Unfortunately when we arrived it was raining and didn't stop until late afternoon. Thankfully the shops were still open so we had time to buy our costumes for the dress up party that night. Our boat decided to dress as hippies. That afternoon the rides at the carnival opened which included a bucking bull. Afterwards we watched one of the most amazing sunsets I'd ever seen and then headed back to the boat for pre-drinks before heading to the cave night club.
The Cave Club
The following day we arrived at our final destination. Split. It is quite a large town with many cobbled lane ways filled with restaurants selling italian food including pasta and pizza - Croatia has some of the best pizza I've ever eaten. That night we had farewell drinks to conclude our final night of the trip.
Farewell Drinks in Split
This was one of the highlights of my trip and I wouldn't hesitate recommending it to anyone. We met such a great group of people who each added extra value to the cruise!
